Malaysia Open: PV Sindhu, HS Prannoy advance to quarterfinals | Badminton News


KUALA LUMPUR: Two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu entered the quarter-finals with a win from behind over Thailand’s Phittayaporn Chaiwan in the Malaysian Open Thursday.
The world No.7 beat her opponent Thailand 19-21 21-9 21-14 in a 57-minute second-round clash at Axiata Arena.
The seventh-seeded Indian will next face arch-nemesis Tai Tzu Ying of Chinese Taipei in the final eight clashes.
World No. 21 HS Prannoy also advanced to the men’s singles quarter-finals with an easy 21-15 21-7 victory over Chinese Taipei’s fourth seed Chou Tien Chen.
One of the heroes of India’s epic Thomas Cup triumph, unseeded Prannoy will face seventh-seeded Indonesian Jontan Christie.
Later in the day, the men’s doubles seventh seed of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty and former Commonwealth Games champion Parupalli Kashyap will also be in action.
