Jodie Burrage comes to the aid of unwell ball boy with sweets during first round Wimbledon match

At the start of the second set of Burrage’s match with Lesia Tsurenko, one of the ball boys for the match on Court 18 appeared to be struggling with an illness.

“He just said he felt really weak. He couldn’t really speak. It was pretty painful to watch,” Burrage told reporters afterward.

As the youngster sat on the court and was picked up by the match referee, the British No.5 rushed to the fridge to bring her some water and one of her energy gels.

The 23-year-old was even offered a packet of Percy Pigs – a brand of British gummies – from the crowd to give to the ball boy while he sat.

“I just tried to bring him some sugar, gave him a Gatorade and a gel. The gel isn’t the best thing, so they managed to find some Percy Pigs candy somewhere along the line in the crowd, which he walked down and then began to feel better.”

Burrage spent several minutes with the youngster as he sat before medical assistance arrived and helped escort him off the pitch.

“He was out of position and I just tried to help as much as I could,” she said. “I actually had a panic attack once in juniors here, so I’ve been where he is. I kinda know how he felt.”

Ukraine’s Tsurenko eventually beat Burrage 6-2 6-3 in their first-round clash.
