NEW DELHI: The Indian Olympic Association said on Tuesday that he would discuss in detail the Delhi High Courtthe directive to place the country’s apex sporting body under a three-member board of trustees before making the decision to approach the Supreme Court.
The AIO Officials are to meet on Wednesday.
The Delhi High Court ordered the establishment of a three-member CoA to take over the IOA’s affairs, saying its ‘continuing unwillingness’ to comply with the Sports Code made it imperative that its affairs be given to the committee .
“AIO members will discuss the High Court judgment in detail and decide whether to appeal to the Supreme Court,” the AIO Secretary General said. Rejeev Mehta said.
The CoA includes former Supreme Court Justice Justice Anil R Dave, former Chief Electoral Commissioner Dr. SY Quraishiand former Foreign Ministry Secretary Vikas Swarup.
The court ordered the IOA executive committee to immediately hand over the charge to the newly appointed committee and said the CoA members would be assisted by three eminent sportsmen, namely Olympic medalist shooter Abhinav Bindra, former long jumper Anju Bobby George, and archer Bombayla Devi Laishram.
The development comes on a day when the Indian Football Federation (AIFF) was banned by world sports body FIFA for “third party interference”.
In December 2012, the IOA was suspended by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for over a year due to the presence of tainted officials and government interference.
Following the latest developments, another IOC ban hangs over the IOA.
Last month, only the IOC threatened to suspend the AIO if it did not proceed with its elections as soon as possible.
The AIO elections were scheduled for December last year, but could not be held as planned due to amendments to the Constitution.
The IOC had urged the IOA to convene a meeting of its General Assembly and to confirm the date of its elections without delay.
