1st unofficial Test: Carter misses double century by whisker but puts New Zealand A in strong position | Cricket News


BENGALURU: Joe Carter missed a double hundredth by just three runs but put New Zealand A in a strong position against India A on day two of the first unofficial Test on Friday.
Carter, who resumed the day on the 73rd, went on to bat for 305 balls assisting New Zealand A after 400 balls in his opening run.
They had resumed the day at 153 for five. It was a one-man show from Carter being the only hitter to break the 40-run mark before hitting his best first-class score.
In response India A was 156 for one of 37 overs with opener Abhimanyu Easwaran (87 against 120) nearly a century. Captain Priyank Panchal perished after scoring 47 of 83 balls.
Ruturaj Gaikwad (20 beating 19) was in the middle alongside Easwaran at the stumps. India A trail still of 244 tracks.
On his debut, pacer Mukesh Kumar notched a deserving run of five wickets after taking three wickets on the opening day.
Indian bowling was not as effective as the first day which was impacted by rain. Mukesh was again impressive but the others could have done better. Mukesh is the one who got the crucial breakthrough by breaking the 87-point stand between Carter and Sean Solia (32).
The Indians made a promising start with Easwaran and Panchal sharing a stand of 123 runs for the opening wicket. After Panchal was fired, Gaikwad showed aggressive intent by breaking two fours and a six.
