The Weeknd apologized for canceling a concert near Los Angeles on Saturday night after losing her voice at the start of the set.

The Canadian musician took the stage at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California as part of his “After Hours til Dawn Tour”.

But halfway through the song, Can’t Feel My Face, he interrupted his set and walked away from the stage, before returning to tell the stunned audience that he had to “stop the show.”

“I can’t give you the concert I want to give you right now,” he continued.

The singer-songwriter, whose real name is Abel Makkonen Tesfaye, said he wanted to make sure everyone gets their money back, adding that he would organize another show “very soon”.

“I want to come out and apologize personally, I’m so sorry, I love you guys so much,” he told the crowd.

Fans tweeted how he appeared “on the verge of tears” as he walked off stage.

Later, the 32-year-old posted a message on his social media channels apologizing to fans, telling his 16.6 million Twitter followers: “My voice went dead during the first song and I’m devastated.

“I felt it go and my heart dropped.

“My deepest apologies to my fans here. I promise I’ll make you forgive with a new date.”

Furious fans wondered how the Blinding Lights singer was able to deliver his speech if his voice disappeared.

One posted on Twitter: “His voice sounded perfectly good during that announcement.

“He sang a lot about the show and it sounded good. So are you telling me there was no way he could have insisted? That’s ridiculous.”

But others criticized audience members for booing the musician and insisted he deserved the support of his fans.

One said: “These so-called ‘fans’ have too much right. I hope Abel recovers quickly.”

Another added, “It was heartbreaking to watch. It looks so sad and the people are rotten.”

The Weeknd hit song Save Your Tears was the fourth best-selling single of 2021following two musical offerings from Olivia Rodrigo with Ed Sheeran topping the list with Bad Habits.

Meanwhile Blinding Lights, which went viral on TikTok, took Chubby Checker’s The Twist to the top of Billboard’s best songs of all time..

According to its tour website, The Weeknd is expected to appear at Toronto’s Rogers Center on September 22.

There are no details yet for a rescheduled show in Los Angeles.
