CHARJAH (UAE): Pakistan coach Saqlain Mushtaq said the wicket-beater keeper Mohammad Rizwanwho injured his knee in the Super Four game with India, was cleared by the medical team to play the remaining games of the tournament.
Saqlain told the media that Rizwan is fit and a replacement is not needed at the moment.
“These things happen, Pakistan is not that far from the UAE, if we have such a situation, we can call for reinforcements but it’s not necessary at the moment. Rizwan’s workload is heavy and we will seek to manage her. For now, the medical team has given her the green signal,” said the legendary spinner.
Talking about the team’s strategy in the game against India, he talked about the team’s choice to attack the opposition stalwarts with batting and bowling to inflict maximum damage.
“There are strategies in which you attack the bowler or the main batsman because it shakes up the flow of the team. India were clear on the strategy and came with a positive attitude but our bowlers played well with a state attacking mindset and continued to take wickets Our captain kept an attacking mindset and succeeded Bhuvneshwar was attacked because he had played well earlier and it was important to face him and our batters performed well.
Pakistan’s head coach defended Fakhar Zaman for his performance in the match and said he was a proven match player. He also mentioned that Hasan Ali is an integral part of the team but is resting to handle the workload.
“Fakhar is a warrior type person, his past performances speak for it, he is a game winner. And we have no doubts about him and he will come back to play. Hasan Ali was the world number one in the white ball format and also performed well with the red ball for us. He’s with us and due to the rest policy he’s rested, but he’s a proven game-winner and he’ll use it if needed,” the former player said.
The Pakistan head coach also spoke about his state of mind for the game against Afghanistan.
“We cannot write off any team from the T20, especially Afghanistan. The way they played cricket and recorded two wins in the first leg beating Sri Lanka and Bangladesh is amazing.”
Appreciating the Pakistani captain and defending him for his low Asian Cup scores so far, he said: “Babar is a world class player, he hasn’t scored in the last 2-3 games but we we have no doubts about him.”
“His performance was not a problem for us. We don’t listen to outside noises and we have nothing to change, whether it’s Babar’s position or that of the team.”
The former spinner appreciated Virat Kohli’s performance in the Asian Cup and said he was a proven player and the Indian striker’s return to form made him happy.
Credit mohamed nawaz for his performance, he said, “Nawaz’s performance is no surprise as he has always played domestic cricket. Imad was there in the squad and so he had no opportunities.”
Speaking about the team’s chances of winning the Asian Cup, he said: “The T20 is unpredictable, the dressing room environment is important, on and off the pitch, we have good vibes, the boys have fun and we hope we win playing the best cricket.”
