Breathtaking footage show “pilot glory” surrounding the shadow of a moving plane | News from the United States

A fully circular rainbow was seen encircling the shadow of an airplane projected onto the clouds as it moved across the sky.

Photographer Rich Cruise filmed the optical display, known as “pilot’s glory” or “pilot’s halo,” as it flew over Portland Oregon.

The phenomenon occurs when water droplets from a cloud scatter sunlight towards a light source.

This is why flight passengers can sometimes see the “glory” or “halo” around the shadow of their plane when they look out the window.
