India go down 0-3 to Bangladesh in SAFF Women’s Championship | Football News

KATHMANDU: The Indian women’s team suffered a 0-3 loss to Bangladesh in their third and final group match of the SAFF Women’s Championship tuesday.
Ms. Jahan Shopna scored a brace for Bangladesh, while Srimoti Sarkar got one in his name, to hand defeat to India.
However, the defeat had no impact on India’s qualification for the semi-finals as the Blue Tigresses had already booked their place in the last four, where they are set to face Nepal on Saturday at the same venue.
Bangladesh had the first momentum and took the lead in the 12th minute, when Sarkar sent a ball to Shopna, who slotted between two defenders and sent it past the keeper, to put his side ahead.
India had their first chance of the match on the 19th, when Anju Tamang got a free kick 22 yards from goal. Young Priyangka Devi approached the dead ball, but curled it just off the woodwork.
A few minutes later, Sarkar doubled Bangladesh’s lead by rushing into the Indian box from the left flank and past the goalkeeper.
India tried to attempt several long diagonals to catch the Bangladeshi high line off guard but to no avail as the first half ended quickly with the latter taking a two goal lead into the tunnel.
The Blue Tigresses started the second half well and quickly got a free kick on the right flank, which was sent by Priyangka, towards Renu, who had freed herself from her marker.
However, the ball awkwardly bounced around the corner, ricocheted off Renu’s stomach and went safely into the hands of Bangladeshi keeper Rupna Chakma.
