EU chief von der Leyen wants Putin to confront ICC over Ukraine

BERLIN: EU head Ursula by last Leyen said in an interview on Thursday that she wants Russian President Vladimir Putin to be brought before the International Criminal Court for war crimes in Ukraine.
“This Cheese fries must lose this war and must face up to its deeds, that is important to me,” she told German broadcaster Bild.
There is no doubt that war crimes have been committed in Ukraine, said von der Leyen, who also visited Kyiv on Thursday.
“Therefore, we support the collection of evidence” for possible prosecution at the International Criminal Court, she said.
“It is the basis of our international legal system, that we punish these crimes. And ultimately Putin is responsible,” she said.
Asked if Putin would one day be brought before the court, she replied: “I believe it is possible”.
During his visit to Ukraine for talks on closer integration with the European Union, von der Leyen promised that the war-torn country would have support from Europe “for as long as it takes”.
