The ITIA said the player, who will not be named due to his age, tested positive for Meldonium – a metabolic modulator – during a tournament in January.
The statement said the player admitted to violating the rules of the Tennis Anti-Doping Program (TADP).
“Due to the player’s age, level and lack of access to anti-doping education, the sanction has been set at nine months, retroactive to the date of the player’s provisional suspension (March 5, 2022) “, reads the press release.
“This means the player is ineligible to participate in or attend any tennis events authorized, organized or sanctioned by the sport’s governing bodies until December 4, 2022.”
Individual training sessions would be offered to the player, the statement continued.
Russia is barred from participating in this year’s FIFA Men’s World Cup, which takes place in Qatar from November 20 to December 18.
