NEW DELHI: BCCI described Jhulan GoswamiThe ‘monumental’ two-decade international career, claiming an era ended with the retirement of one of women’s cricketers greatest.
The 39 year old man jhulan retired from international cricket following the conclusion of the ODI series in Englandduring which visitors got a very first sweep to bid farewell to the legendary couturier.

In an international career spanning more than two decades – the second longest in women’s international cricket – Jhulan, who made her debut in 2002, represented India in 12 Tests, 204 ODIs and 68 T20Is, picking 355 wickets in all formats.
“With Jhulan’s announcement of her retirement from international cricket, an era has passed. She was immensely proud to represent India and always did her best to serve Indian cricket with distinction,” said the chairman of the BCCI, Sourav Ganguly, in a press release. .

“She was India’s leading attacking bowler and her exploits will continue to inspire current and aspiring cricketers. Her contribution to the game was monumental.
โ€œWhile his inspirational presence on the pitch will be missed, his achievements will continue to inspire future cricketers,โ€ Ganguly added.

Jhulan, who went on to play in five ODI World Cups – 2005, 2009, 2013, 2017 and 2022 – remains the leading wicket taker in Women’s World Cup history. She also remains the only rhythm in women’s cricket to have over 250 wickets in the ODIs.
BCI secretary Jay Shah said: “Jhulan Goswami is one of the greatest to ever grace the game. She, with her exceptional bowling skills, led India’s bowling attack with momentum for many years and will go down as a benchmark for young cricketers who wish to represent the country at the highest level.
“As she embarks on a new journey and begins a new run, I wish her all the best.”
In his farewell match, Jhulan finished with excellent numbers of 2/30 in his full quota of 10 overs, including three first overs.

The competitive Indian has seen the game evolve during her long journey which has been marked by unforgettable moments and a few unpleasant days, which the board treasurer Arun Singh Dhumal also observed.
