A civilian convoy in eastern Ukraine was found on Saturday after allegedly being attacked by Russian forces, killing 24 people, including 13 children and a pregnant woman, Ukrainian officials said.

According to the head of the Kharkiv military administration, Oleh Syniehubov, a convoy of at least six cars traveling west from the village of Pischane in the Luhansk region to Kurykivka in the Kharkiv region was brutally attacked on 25 September around 9:00 am. Pravda first reported.

Several survivors of the attack managed to escape and reported the incident to the authorities.

The identity of the victims was examined and another war crimes investigation was reportedly opened.

“The Russians fired on civilians point-blank,” Syniehubov said.

Images posted on Telegram by the Ukrainian Attorney General’s Office showed at least two burnt cars with burned bodies inside.

At least two other unmarked civilian vehicles were riddled with bullet holes, with more fatalities scattered around inside.

The interim head of the Ukrainian security service, Vasyl Maliuk, echoed the assessment of the regional army and said: “This brutal attack on civilians was carried out by a Russian sabotage and reconnaissance group.

“They used small arms to attack six old light vehicles and a Gazel van, almost point blank,” he added.

The attack on eastern Kharkiv came after a major counter-offensive by Ukrainian troops forced Russia to evacuate its men from the region.

Officials told Fox News Digital this week that just because Ukraine had largely gained control of the region, that didn’t mean Russian soldiers had completely left the area.

Ukraine has continued to advance into neighboring Donetsk and Luhansk regions in recent days, securing the city of Lyman a strategic victory for Kiev on Saturday.
