The Seattle Mariners produced a sensational comeback on Saturday to beat the Toronto Blue Jays in an MLB playoff game that also featured a violent clash that knocked the Blue Jays’ George Springer off the field after colliding with Bo Bichette of the Mariners.

JP Crawford had hit a blooper in shallow center field and as the pair headed for the ball, Bichette’s elbow made contact with Springer’s neck.

Bichette stayed for the rest of the game, while Springer went in the eighth inning.

After the game, Blue Jays interim manager John Schneider told reporters the 33-year-old was “doing fine”.

“He’s going to be assessed for several different things, he said some nice things to his teammates earlier,” Schneider said in the post-match press conference. “So we will know more in the next few days.”

Springer’s injury worsened what was a horrific night for Team Toronto in Game 2 of the American League Wild Card Series at Rogers Center as the Marines came back from a seven-point deficit to secure qualify for the second round.

According to MLB.com, the comeback was the second most in playoff history, the most for a team on the road, and the most in a series deciding game.

The Blue Jays had an 8-1 lead after five innings, but the Mariners had four runs in the sixth and four more in the eighth to tie the game at 9-9. Second baseman Adam Frazier doubled up in the ninth inning to lead Cal Raleigh with the winning run.

The Mariners will next host the Houston Astros in the best-of-five series.
