NEW DELHI: On Monday, the Electoral Commission (EC) awarded the “mashaal (flaming torch)” as a poll symbol to the Shiv Sena faction led by Uddhav Thackeray.
The constituency rejected the Uddhav camp’s choice of “trishul” citing its religious connotation, and “Sunrise‘how is a DMK symbol.

The Thackeray faction has been given the name: Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray).
Meanwhile, the faction led by the Prime Minister of Maharashtra Eknath Shinde was given the name: Balsahebanchi Shiv Sena.
The jury rejected all 3 symbols proposed by the Shinde camp: ‘Trishul’ and ‘Gada‘for their religious connotation; and ‘Rising Sun’ as it is the DMK symbol. The EC asked the faction to provide a new list of three favorite symbols by 10 am on Tuesday.
