Prime Minister Modi Says Gujarat Will Defeat “Urban Naxals” In Veiled Dig AAP | News from India

BARUCH / ANAND: Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a veiled attack on the AAP appealing to people, particularly tribal villagers in his native Gujarat, to stay alert and away from “urban Naxals” and by foreign agents who, according to him, were creating roadblocks in development and pursuing a malevolent agenda to destroy the country.
Modi’s comments were seen as directed against the AAP and its national coordinator Arvind Kejriwal working overtime in Gujarat ahead of the assembly polls to be held in late December. The state witnessed a bipolar dispute between BJP and Congress in the past 24 years.
Addressing public gatherings in Amod near Bharuch and the educational city of Vallabh Vidyanagar on Monday, Modi said that the tribes of Gujarat have chosen development and have ensured that the evil of Naxalism that has gripped many states does not take hold here.

“Those with a Naxalite mentality have endeavored to block the Sardar Sarovar dam on the Narmada River. Urban Naxals are now flying into the state sporting new clothing. They have changed their appearance and are now instigating our gullible and lively youth. You have to warn your children against these urban Naxals and foreign agents who want to destroy our country, “she said.

The prime minister exuded confidence that Gujarat would upset their camp.
“The Naxals have destroyed the lives of tribal youth in West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Gadchiroli in Maharashtra and parts of Madhya Pradesh. By handing them guns, they instigated them to do violence. I was determined not to let Naxalism take hold in Gujarat and that is why I started the development of the entire eastern belt which extends from Ambaji to Umargam, ”Modi said.
The Prime Minister praised the tribes for not allowing Naxalism to take root in Gujarat by placing faith in its development mantra. “I bow to them (tribals),” he said.
In Vallabh Vidyanagar, Modi deplored the way decades were wasted building the Sardar Sarovar dam due to the obstacles posed by the “urban Naxals”. He said: “The money of the poor had to be spent on fighting legal battles in the courts … 40-50 years was wasted in the process.”
In September he claimed that “urban Naxals and anti-development elements” had blocked the Sardar Sarovar dam for years, while Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel had called Narmada Bachao Andola Medha activist Patkar an “urban Naxal”. Patkar had unsuccessfully contested the 2014 parliamentary polls as an AAP candidate for Mumbai Northeast.
