NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a series of infrastructure projects in Himachal Pradesh on Thursday that will go to the polls next month.
The list includes a high-speed train, a drug park and a technical institute.
“The dual-engine government has provided the state with new infrastructure at every stage. I am delighted to announce gifts worth several thousand crore to Himachal ahead of Dhanteras and Diwali,” the Prime Minister said in a public address.
The BJP is trying to keep the hilly state where it won 44 of 68 seats in the 2017 assembly election, while in the 2019 Lok Sabha election it won all four seats in the state.
It is likely that the Electoral Commission, which has just concluded its three-day visit to the state, will announce the election program in the coming days.

Here are the major projects that the Prime Minister inaugurated on Thursday during his visit to the state:

From Amb Andaura to New Delhi, the country’s 4th Vande Bharat Express is an advanced version over its predecessors, being much lighter and capable of faster speeds.
Accelerate to 100km per hour in just 52 seconds. The introduction of the train will help promote tourism in the region and provide a quick and comfortable mode of travel.
Bulk drug park
Prime Minister Modi laid the foundation stone for a Bulk Drug Park which is expected to attract investment of around Rs 10,000 crore and provide jobs for over 20,000 people in the city of Una.
The facility will help reduce dependence on active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) or imports of pharmaceutical raw materials.
“Medicines will become cheaper when both raw materials and production take place in Himachal Pradesh,” the Prime Minister said.
IIIT at Una
On Thursday morning, PM Modi also dedicated Una’s Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) to the nation. The foundation stone of the institute was laid by him in 2017. Currently, more than 530 students are continuing their studies in the institute.
“The pharmaceutical, education and rail projects launched in HP’s Una will have a positive impact on the region’s progress,” Modi said.
Energy, road projects
The Prime Minister also laid the foundations for two hydroelectric projects: the 48 MW Chanju-III hydroelectric project and the 30 MW Deothal Chanju hydroelectric project.
Both of these projects will generate over 270 million units of electricity annually and Himachal Pradesh is expected to generate annual revenue of around Rs 110 crore from these projects.
Praising the cooperation between the state and the Development Center, he said the BJP’s twin-engine government has made domestic gas connections available for every home.
Modi also launched Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) -III in Himachal Pradesh for the modernization of some 3,125 km of roads in the state.
More than Rs 420 crore was sanctioned by the Center at this stage for upgrading 440km of roads in 15 border and remote blocks of the state.
