The Times of India Sports Awards (TOISA) 2021 to honor today’s champions


It is time for the fifth edition of the Times of India Sports Awards (TOISA). This edition of the awards – TOISA 2021 – will once again celebrate and honor the best of Indian athletes, coaches and teams across multiple sports today.
The evaluation period for the awards was the calendar year 2021. It included the latest editions of the Asian Olympics, Paralympics and Championships, World Championships and World Championships.
The nominees have been selected in multiple categories in different sports disciplines for men and women, including para-sports after meticulous research for the TOISA 2021 awards. The most coveted award will of course once again be the prestigious Sports Award of the Year. There will also be a Lifetime Achievement Award recipient.
The nominees for the TOISA 2021 award categories included the likes of Indian sports stars such as Neeraj Chopra, PV Sindhu, Mirabai ChanuRohit Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja, Sumit Antil, Avani Lekhara, Jasprit Bumrah, Smriti MandhanaJhulan Goswami, Gurjit Kaur, Sharath Kamal, Manika Batra, Lovlina Borgohain, Devendra Jhajharia, Ravi Kumar Dahiya, the Indian cricket and men’s hockey teams, the women’s hockey team, among others.

Distinguished sports personalities, including cricket all-rounder and 1983 World Cup-winning team member Madan Lal, Olympic medal-winning shooter Gagan Narang, former hockey captain and sports minister Haryana Sandeep Singh, veteran athlete Indian Anju Bobby George, who was the first Indian athlete to win a medal at the World Athletics Championships, the silver medal at the Paralympic Games Deepa Malik and the Olympic medal winner and now professional boxer Vijender Singh were on the jury this once evaluated and selected the winners of TOISA 2021.
At the recently held jury meeting in the capital, jury members deliberated on the 2021 results of some of India’s elite athletes, across all sports. While the winners in some categories were easily decided, the jury members took their time and argued for a long time before finalizing a unanimous winner in some other categories.
“The Times of India Sports Awards are one of the best awards where athletes from different sports disciplines share the same stage and are honored for their performance. It is very important to appreciate athletes for their performance and the Times of India has been Appreciate and honoring athletes. I was a part of TOISA last time and before and these awards are a big step forward in terms of honoring our country’s athletes, “said former Indian hockey captain Sandeep Singh.

Speaking about the experience of being part of the TOISA 2021 jury, Olympic medalist Gagan Narang said, “Awards are a form of motivation for any athlete who performs at the highest level for the country. Awards motivate athletes. The Times of India hosting these awards will be a great inspiration and motivation for the athletes who win (and also) those who have been nominated. The jury meeting was a great process and we enjoyed it. ”
The who’s who of the Indian sports fraternity will be in attendance tonight at the TOISA 2021 awards ceremony. Current stars of some of India’s greatest sports legends will walk the red carpet for awards.
Obviously it is very important to celebrate the successes of our athletes. Paralympic silver medalist and president of the Paralympic Committee of India Deepa Malik echoed this sentiment during the jury meeting.
“It is a very responsible job (being a member of the jury) and gives me the opportunity to give back to sport, encourage the talents who have reached and given their best to emerge as sport models and icons in the country, giving direction, hope, source of inspiration for many other sportsmen who are now thinking of dedicating their time to sport. Jeet ka jashn bahut zaruri hota hai (it is very important to celebrate the victory), “he said.

Overall, there were over 100 nominees in multiple sports categories for TOISA 2021. In addition to rewarding individual athletes, prizes will also be awarded for the Coach of the Year and Team of the Year categories.
“It was a different experience to be on the jury of the Times of India Sports Awards. The awards are very important to the players. Once you start recognizing the athletes, they get the motivation to do well. I believe that motivation is important to the players. athletes to achieve higher goals, “said Madan Lal.
The latest edition of TOISA saw PV Sindhu retire with the coveted Sportsperson of the Year award, while Bhaichung Bhutia received the Lifetime Achievement Award.
TOISA 2021 jury member Anju Bobby George said, “The Times of India Sports awards were an opportunity for us to choose the best sportsmen. Winning a medal is for the country and the awards are recognition of achievements, so the awards are important for athletes. ” ?
