Iranian riot police sexually assault women in public during protests around first month anniversary

Iranian protesters called for “justice” for a woman who was attacked by riot police, with an officer who forcibly grabbed her butt and then pushed her to the ground.

The video, taken Wednesday by a security camera in Tehran’s Argentina Square, shows police surrounding the woman. When they start taking her away, an agent grabs the woman’s butt before she falls to her knees.

Another woman can be heard saying that the officers were pulling the victim’s hair as he knelt on the ground.

The Tehran Police Public Relations Office said the incident will be investigated, the BBC reported, but the police have not provided any statements as to what may have happened. Instead, the police accused the “enemies” of “using psychological warfare” to cause “public anxiety and incite violence”.

Protests continued for a month across Iran following the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini while in police custody. The Iranian Morality Police arrested Amini for allegedly violating hijab (veil) laws and claimed she had gone into a coma before his death.

Her family disputes the police report and instead said they saw evidence that Amini was beaten.

Iranian officials and authorities tried to prevent the protest media from reaching the outside world, but the protesters managed to provide the Internet with many videos and images showing the brutality used by the police.

Daftari praised Iranians taking great risks and putting videos online in an effort to make sure the world is aware of what is happening inside Iran and that the regime cannot show the world just what they want it to see. .

“Thanks to the courageous citizen journalism we are seeing outside Iran, the global community is witnessing all the brutal and horrific crimes of the regime,” said Daftari. “If the world stands still, silent and lazy, it is not for lack of knowledge. The Iranian people are making their history known.”
