Taylor Swift thanked her fans for “doing something amazing” as her new release broke Spotify’s record for the most streamed album in a single day.

The pop star’s latest offering, Midnights, sparked a wave of interest after it was released on Friday – and caused a stir with a couple of sworn texts.

Less than 24 hours later, the music streaming giant announced that the album had amassed the most streams in a single day in the platform’s history.

Reacting to the news, Swift wrote: “How lucky was I to have you out here doing something amazing ?!

“Like what just happened ?!”

Comes after Spotify users have reported a huge spike in outages after the new album landed on the platform.

Rapid he described the record as the story of “13 sleepless nights scattered throughout my life” and “a journey through terror and sweet dreams”.

He sees her move away from the intimate indie songwriting of her latest two albums, Folklore and Evermore, in favor of electronics, synth-pop and, at times, even hip-hop influenced beats.

Swift once again wrote most of the album with Jack Antonoff, lead singer of the rock group Bleachers.

In a post on his Instagram on the occasion of the album’s release, he shared a photo of himself with his collaborators and identified Antonoff as his “co-driver”.

He said: “Midnights is a collage of intensities, ups and downs and ebbs and flows.

“Life can be dark, starry, cloudy, terrifying, thrilling, hot, cold, romantic, or lonely. Just like Midnights.”
