Elon Musk To Establish Twitter Moderation Board With “Widely Different Viewpoints” | News on science and technology

Elon Musk said Twitter will form a moderation council “with widely differing views” and that “no major content decisions or account restoration” will be made before it meets.

Musk’s $ 44 billion deal to buy Twitter completed Thursday and reportedly fired the company’s chief executive and two other senior bosses.

The richest man in the world tweeted “the bird is set free” and “let the good times roll” before a tweet Friday announced the establishment of the content moderation board.

He has previously promised to review the service by eliminating fake accounts and ensuring it is a place where “a range of beliefs can be healthyly debated.”

Donald Trump – arguably once the most famous Twitter user – is one of those whose account could be restored.

The former president was banned after the siege of the United States Capitol in January 2021 for allegedly inciting violence with two of his posts.

However, Moss earlier this year he called the ban a “mistake” and “morally wrong”.

Trump celebrated the acquisition of TruthSocial, a conservative social media platform he created, by posting that Twitter was “now in good hands” and “would no longer be run by lunatics and radical left freaks who truly hate our country.” .

Many on the right of the political spectrum have long argued that Twitter and other social media sites are biased against their views and are rushing to “dishearten” them.

Musk’s approach a Twitter he could dispel some of those accusations as he described himself as an “absolutist of free speech”.

However, he also assured advertisers that Twitter would not become a “free hell landscape for all, where anything can be said without consequences.”

Donald Trump said in his post that the service would become “smaller but better” and that he must “work hard to get rid of all bots and fake accounts”.

He also claimed that his TruthSocial has become a “phenomena” that last week had “bigger numbers” than TikTok, Twitter and Facebook.

It is unclear what figures he is referring to, but the claim is likely to be false given the huge user base of those services.

Musk’s Twitter purchase was completed one day before the October 28 deadline to prevent the deal from going to court. The company had taken legal action to force the deal after Musk withdrew in July due to the number of fake and spam accounts.

Earlier this week, Musk released a bizarre video of himself entering Twitter headquarters in San Francisco carrying a sink next to the message: “Enter Twitter headquarters – let it sink.”

He has now also updated his Twitter bio to “Chief Twit”.

According to reports, Musk told staff during his visit that it wasn’t true that he planned to cut up to 75% of Twitter’s staff after he acquired the company.

It was previously reported that Musk had told investors he hoped to cut about three-quarters of the company’s 7,500 employees.

He told investors he plans to sell premium subscriptions to users to reduce ad addiction, allow content creators to make money and enable payments, according to the Reuters news agency.
