ISL: FC Goa celebrate first home match with 3-0 drubbing of Jamshedpur FC | Football News


MARGAO: FC Goais the first home game of this Indian Super League (SIL) the season was joyful because they won Jamshedpur FC 3-0 at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here on Thursday.
Iker Guarrotxena and Noah Wail Sadaoui scored in the opening 15 minutes, and Brison Fernandes netted in the 93rd minute to give FC Goa a win on their return home.
Both teams have made two changes to their starting XI. The hosts welcomed Dheeraj Moirangthem back in goal, and Mohamed Fares Arnaout replaced Marc Hernandez in defence.
The visitors also made a defensive change with Eli Sabia coming on as a substitute Pratik Chaudhari. Harry Sawyer fell to the bench and Jitendra Singh entered midfield as Jamshedpur went to a 4-2-3-1.

FC Goa were on a flyer as Guarrotxena scored after just two minutes. Brandon Fernandes played a short corner to Edu Bedia on the right flank. The Spaniard whipped in a cross as the ball missed a cheeky shot from Redeem Tlang before finding Guarrotxena, whose decisive assist gave the Gaurs the lead.
Ten minutes into the game, the hosts received a knock after Arnaout was stretched out and replaced by midfielder Glan Martins. Head coach Carlos Pena didn’t change the formation as Martins slotted in as a centre-back.
Before the Red Miners could capitalize on that opportunity, the Gaurs established a two-goal cushion just two minutes into the substitution. Brandon found Sadaoui with a sublime defensive pass from midfield. The striker kept his left-footed shot low and hard to double FC Goa’s advantage.
Towards the end of the first half, Wellington Priori dodged his marker and took a shot on goal. Dheeraj matched it with a decent save.
On the other side, Sadoui continued to be a threat to the Jamshedpur FC defence. In first-half stoppage time, Sadoui crossed the ball from the left flank before Tiang’s header was knocked off the bar by Rehenesh.
In the second half, Jamshedpur FC head coach Aidy Boothroyd returned to a 4-4-2 formation by eliminating Sabia and Jitendra and bringing in Sawyer and Pratik.
FC Goa scored their third goal in added time of the second half. The substitutes combined as Savior Gama played a low ball towards Brison. Just five minutes after coming on, Brison controlled the ball at his feet before smashing it past Rehenesh in the 93rd minute.
The win lifted FC Goa to second place in the ISL standings with nine points. The Gaurs will travel to Kochi to take on the Kerala Blasters on November 13.
Jamshedpur slipped from sixth to eighth in the league and have four points from four games. Their next match is against Hyderabad FC at home on November 9.
