ISL: Chennaiyin FC seal 1-0 win against East Bengal FC | Football News

CALCULATED: Chennaiyin FC to beat east bengal 1-0 to earn their second victory against the same opponents this season in the Indian Super League here Friday.
Vafa Hakhamaneshi scored the game’s only goal in the 69th minute, shortly before he was sent off.
Both teams finished with ten men as East Bengal Sarthak Golui was also sent off in the 75th minute.
The hosts remained unchanged as head coach Etienne Constantin fielded the same XI that started in the Kolkata Derby last week.
Chennaiyin FC made just one substitution, with Debjit Majumder returning to goal after serving his suspension. The main concern for the visitors was Kwame Karikari’s absence from the squad due to injury.
Two minutes into the game, Jordan O’Doherty found himself in space inside Chennaiyin’s penalty area. His cross was blocked by Fallou Diagne before he could do any damage.
At the other end, just after the 10th minute, Petar Sliskovic was spotted on a through pass by Anirudh Thapa. The angle was tight and Sliskovic’s attempt hit the post.
As half time approached in the first half, Suhair Vadakkepeedika tried to surprise the visitors with a quick counter. The flag stayed down as Suhair galloped towards goal before placing his effort away from the far post.
In the 34th minute, Thapa sold a dummy in the East Bengal penalty area before his powerful shot was stopped by Kamaljit Singh.
In the 36th minute, Hakhamaneshi was almost punished for his complacency on the edge of Chennaiyin’s penalty area. The Iranian delayed a pass to the keeper before losing his footing. Cleiton Silva pounced on the ball but saw his shot from a tight angle miss the goal.
Five minutes into the second half, a Chennaiyin FC corner was cleared, but only until Rahim Ali crouched on the edge of the box. On the volley, the striker tried to find the bottom right corner, but his effort was just wide.
Three minutes later, Kamaljit made another brave save to prevent Prasanth Karuthadathkuni.
The match had written 0-0 everywhere until the 69th minute.
Substitute Akash Sangwan fired a good ball from a corner and Hakhamaneshi was the first to reach and nod from close range, giving Marina Machans a crucial lead.
However, the Iranian defender received a second yellow card of the match due to his celebration, and the visitors were reduced to 10 men.
Just over five minutes after the incident, the torchbearers were also reduced to ten men. Sarthak, cautioned in the first half, received his marching orders after connecting his elbow to Anirudh Thapa in midfield.
The three points lift Chennaiyin FC from sixth to fifth place in the SIL table.
With seven points, Marina Machans are three points clear of the summit and next face Mumbai City FC at home on November 12.
East Bengal moved from ninth to tenth place in the league. The Torch Bearers are three points from the bottom and will face Bengaluru FC on November 11.
