Donald Trump described Ron DeSantis as an “average” politician, in a statement aimed at belittling the man who could rival him for the Republican presidential nomination.
Mr. De Santis44, he was re-elected governor of Florida with nearly 60% of the vote, marking him as a rising star and a possible contender for the presidency in 2024.
But the former president Mr. Trump described him as “Ron DeSanctimonious”, a politician who was “in desperate condition” when he ran for his first term in 2017.
Trump said: “He was politically dead, losing in a landslide to a very good agriculture commissioner, Adam Putnam, who was full of money and big poll numbers.
“Ron had poor approval, bad polls and no money, but he said if I approved him, he could win.
“When I approved it, it was as if, to use a negative term, a nuclear weapon had exploded.”
“I also fixed his campaign, which was completely shattered,” added Trump, before praising himself for preventing DeSantis’ election from “being stolen.”
Trump still claims, despite no real evidence, that the 2020 election he lost to Joe Biden was rigged.

Mid-term voters generally rejected candidates who backed Trump’s claims.
The election results are still too early to be announced in many areas, but although they may still win both houses of Congress, Republicans have not won as easily as many had predicted.
Some of Trump’s Republican political colleagues have blamed him for this, leaving him in a vulnerable position after six years of largely unchallenged party domination.
Writing on social media, he refuted any claims that he was angry at the results, saying he is “very busy looking to the future” and adding, “Remember I am a ‘stable genius’.”
Trump, 76, has hinted that he will run for president again and has already anticipated a big announcement on November 15, when he should formalize his run.
