If it seemed like the Green Bay Packers turned their season around with last week’s overtime win over the Dallas Cowboys, their next game against the Tennessee Titans told a different story.
The Titans visited the frozen tundra on Thursday and won 27-17 after leading from start to finish. They are now 7-3 after opening the season with two losses, while the Packers, who snapped a five-game losing streak against the Cowboys, drop to 4-7.
The Packers recovered by 14 points against the Cowboys and it looked like another comeback was on the cards against the Titans as they went from 20-9 to 20-17 in the third quarter.
But Tennessee got clear when Ryan Tannehill hit Austin Hooper for the second touchdown of the night and the Titans’ first touchdown in the fourth quarter this season.
“The season is not over. There are still six opportunities left,” Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers told reporters about his team’s chances of making the playoffs.
“We have a tough game; we have to go to Philadelphia. I hope that these few days we can be a little healthier, refresh our spirits, and then obviously we have to win these next matches.
The Titans opened the scoring when Tannehill, who finished the night 22 of 27 passing for 333 yards, found Dontrell Hilliard, but the Packers answered late in the first quarter through rookie receiver Christian Watson.
Derrick Henry extended the Titans’ lead before playing a helping hand in the team’s third touchdown with a three-yard pass to Hooper.
Henry rushed for 87 yards in Thursday’s game, putting him past 1,000 yards for the season.
Rodgers found Watson in the third quarter before Hooper closed out the win for Tennessee, which recorded its season-high point total.
“I think everyone who played contributed and helped tremendously,” Titans coach Mike Vrabel told reporters.
“There’s a big demand being put on these guys,” he added. “I know they’re looking forward to the rest, they’ve earned it, and we need to come back for a week off and make sure we’re ready to play well against Cincinnati.”
This game against the Bengals will take place at Nissan Stadium on November 27.
