ISL: Super-subs make impact for Chennaiyin FC in 3-1 win over Jamshedpur FC | Football News

CHENNAI: Chennaiyin FC picked up their first home win this season with a 3-1 victory over Jamshedpur FC in the Indian Super League (SIL) here on Saturday.
Petar Sliskovic broke the deadlock in the first half before Ishan Pandita equalized in the final quarter.
Substitutes Vincy Baretto and Abdenasser El Khayati struck late for Marina Machans as Jamshedpur recorded three straight defeats for the first time since the 2020-21 season.
Both teams have made four changes to their respective rosters. Anirudh Thapa, Rahim Ali and Jiteshwor Singh dropped out of the squad for the hosts, while El Khayati fell to the bench.
Vafa Hakhamaneshi returned to the heart of defense as Jockson Dhas, Sajal Bag and Surav Das had their first starts.
Daniel Chukwu, Laldinpuia Pachuau and Laldinliana Renthlei were all injured for Jamshedpur, while Harry Sawyer fell to the bench. Faroukh Choudhary, Wellington Priori, Muhammed Uvais and Pandita were all drafted into the starting lineup. The injury-riddled Red Miners were dealt another blow in the 16th minute when Priori was stretched off.
To make matters worse, Jamshedpur fell behind in the 27th minute. Julius Duker played a through ball to Dhas, who galloped forward into acres of space before getting shot. The midfielder’s attempt was parried by the keeper straight to Sliskovic, who remained alert and headed the ball from close range.
The game came to life in the final quarter of the match. In the 76th minute, Sawyer headed the ball towards the box as Pandita met him with a well-struck volley to level the score. The lead did not last long as Chennaiyin’s substitutes – El Khayati and baretto – combined in the next minute to put the Marina Machans back in front.
El Khayati whipped in a cross from the left flank and Baretto volleyed it with his first touch of the game.
El Khayati had enough time to score a goal for himself – the Dutch midfielder sold a dummy to Peter Hartley before slotting the ball in at the near post five minutes from time to seal the win.
