Alleged match-fixing in football matches: CBI seeks cooperation of Indian clubs | Football News

NEW DELHI: The CCR recorded a preliminary inquiry into an alleged match fixation in football matches in the country, officials said on Monday.
During the investigation which began about 15 days ago, the CBI searched for and collected documents from the Indian Football Federation on several Indian football clubs, they said.
Under the scanner is the role of an alleged Singapore-based match-fixer in rigging match results, they said.

Officials declined to give details of the suspects named in the preliminary investigation and details of the allegations, as it could hamper the investigation which is in its infancy.
They said the agency has received some documents while others are still pending.
The agency has also sought the cooperation of several Indian football clubs to join the investigation, they said.
The CBI cannot conduct searches, arrests or interrogations by subpoena as part of the preliminary investigation, they said citing the law.
The central investigative agency depends on the cooperation of stakeholders during the preliminary investigation and registers an FIR when it has prima facie evidence pointing to a crime, they said.
