“I want to represent India on an international platform,” says Gunjan Sinha, winner of Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa Season 10

From a trip to an adventure park to meeting her friends back home in Guwahati and finally getting the dollhouse her parents promised her a few years ago, Gunjan Sinha is thrilled to check off everything on her wish list. The eight-year-old dancer from Guwahati has been declared the winner of the dance reality show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 10 (JDJ 10). Gunjan, along with his choreographers Tejas Verma and Sagar Bora, won the dance reality show after beating Rubina Dilaik, and they say they are “extremely happy and shocked”.

Gunjan, who had been on a dance reality show before JDJ 10, says her biggest challenge was learning new dance forms and styles and performing them to perfection. “I think I’ve become a better dancer after being in this show and I want to keep learning different forms of dance,” says Gunjan, whose cute expressions and surprising moves impressed the viewers. He will be returning to Guwahati soon and is looking forward to going back to school. “I’ve never missed my studies because I was taking classes online, but I’m looking forward to meeting my friends at school. I will continue to focus on my dance as I finish my studies,” he says.

Gunjan is happy that he made his parents proud. “I’m still in shock! My victory made them very happy and excited. We plan to go to an adventure park and I told my parents that I want Elsa’s house (from the movie Frozen) as a present. They promised me that they will give it to me a few years ago. But now when I ask them, they say I should give them a gift instead,” laughs the little champion. Now he wants to represent India on an international dance platform.

Sagar says, “While we were in the show, the judges and many others told us that we should try to enter international dance competitions. We want to learn more and get ready to represent India on an international platform. But this is a long term plan, right now, we just want to celebrate with our friends and family,” says Sagar. Tejas adds, “It still feels like we are living a dream and it was totally unexpected as we were competing against people like Rubina and even Faisu who are hugely popular and have a huge fan base. This was not the case with us, we relied on our talent and our passion for dance kept us motivated. We were lucky to receive so much love and support from all”.
