The attack happened in Illerkirchberg, a town of about 5,000 people west of Munich.

A suspect fled to a nearby building, Wolfgang Juergens, police spokesman for nearby Ulm, told local TV station SWR.

People inside the building were taken into custody, he said.

He did not confirm how many people had been found or whether any of them was the alleged attacker.

Police have not yet said whether they suspect a motive for the attack.
