BJP would have won the East if the Center hadn’t reunified the 3 corporations | News from India

NEW DELHI: Merging the three former corporations into one entity may have cost the BJP a win in one. Had they continued as distinct entities, the saffron festival would comfortably win the East Corporation while AAP extension he would have won the other two with ease, an analysis of the results shows.
Out of the newly created 250 wards, 61 comprise the territory covered by the former East Delhi Municipal Corporation. Of these 61 wards, BJP won 35, AAP 20, Congress five and one independent, giving the BJP a clear majority in this part.

Of the 95 wards covering what was previously South Delhi Municipal Corporation, AAP won 58, BJP 33, Congress three and one independent ward, a decisive verdict for AAP. Similarly, of the 94 wards spread across the area that made up the North Delhi Municipal Corporation, the AAP won 56, the BJP 36, the Congress one and an independent. As in the South, this would have given AAP a dominant position in Northern society.
Although the delimitation redefined the boundaries of the wards and reduced their number from 272 to 250, making specific ward comparisons impossible, the three parts remain comparable as whole entities.
