Elon Musk Attacks San Francisco Mayor Lines Up Twitter Bedrooms For ‘Tired Employees’ | Science and technology news

Elon Musk questioned the San Francisco mayor’s “priorities” as he said the city is more concerned about Twitter staff sleeping in the office than children suffering from accidental overdoses.

The Twitter owner’s outburst followed controversies over bedrooms that appeared at the social media site’s office in the northwestern California city.

“Dreary little conference room dorms” were installed, Forbes magazine reported.

The accommodation has “unmade mattresses” and “grey curtains,” he added.

His appearance is perhaps to be expected after Musk told Twitter staffers that they needed to work “Long Hours of High Intensity”.

“Moving forward, to build a revolutionary Twitter 2.0 and succeed in an increasingly competitive world, we’re going to have to be extremely hardcore,” he told them.

“That will mean long hours of high intensity. Only outstanding performance will count as a passing grade.”

Last month, Twitter staffer Esther Crawford said, “When your team is working around the clock to meet deadlines, sometimes you sleep where you work.”

Musk appeared to confirm the bedrooms’ existence after local media picked up on the story.

He tweeted: “So SF city attacks companies that provide beds for tired employees instead of making sure children are safe from fentanyl. Where are your priorities Mayor London Breed!?”

He attached an article from the San Francisco Chronicle that said a 10-month-old boy had accidentally overdosed on fentanyl at a playground.

Paramedics administered overdose drugs and the young man was discharged, the newspaper added.

Ms Breed’s spokeswoman Parisa Safarzadeh said the mayor’s office was investigating but “thankfully a fatal accident was avoided thanks to the quick response from (emergency services),” the newspaper reported.

The San Francisco Department of Building Inspection is investigating a complaint about the bedrooms, Forbes magazine said.

He quoted Patrick Hannan, the department’s director of communications, as saying, “We have to make sure the building is being used as intended.”

In a separate development, Musk briefly lost the title of richest person in the world on Wednesday, also according to Forbes.

He said he was briefly replaced by Bernard Arnault, chief executive of luxury brand Louis Vuitton’s parent company, LVMH, and his family.

Musk’s brief dip in status was caused by a sharp drop in the value of his Tesla stake and $44 billion spent on Twitter.
