Rohit Sharma ruled out of 1st Bangladesh Test, Abhimanyu Easwaran named his replacement | Cricket News


NEW DELHI: India skipper Rohit Sharma, who injured his left thumb while playing in the second matchday game against Bangladesh, has been ruled out of the first test. The Board of Control for Cricket in India announced in a statement that KL Rahul will lead Team India in Rohit’s absence.
Pacer mohamed chami and the versatile Ravindra Jadeja were also left out of the two-Test series against Bangladesh as they were unable to fully recover from their respective shoulder and knee injuries.
Opener Abhimanyu Easwaran was added to the squad as Rohit’s replacement.
Cheteshwar Pujara will be Rahul’s deputy for the first test.
“India Captain Rohit Sharma has seen a specialist in Mumbai for his left thumb injury, which he suffered in the 2nd ODI against Bangladesh. He has been advised of the proper management of this injury and will not be available for the first test against Bangladesh.
“The BCCI medical team will take a call on his availability for the second and final test at a later stage. The All India Senior Selection Committee has appointed Abhimanyu Easwaran as his replacement for the first test,” it said. a press release from the BCCI.
Pacers Navdeep Saini, Jaydev Unadkat and uncapped spinner Saurabh Kumar were also included in Shami and Jadeja’s squad.
“Fast bowler Mohd. Shami and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja have yet to fully recover from their respective shoulder and knee injuries and are ruled out of the Test series. Coaches have named Navdeep Saini and Saurabh Kumar as replacements of Shami and Jadeja respectively. The selection committee has also added fast bowler Jaydev Unadkat to the India squad for the Test series,” the statement added.
The first Bangladesh vs India test begins on December 14 in Chattogram.
The second test begins in Mirpur on December 22 and Rohit will race against time to get fit for the game.
Easwaran enters the team having scored 299 points in two games for the Indian “A” team currently on tour in Bangladesh.
Left arm spinner Saurabh was the top Serie A wicket taker against Bangladesh with 15 wickets while Saini last played for India at the famous Brisbane Test in January 2021.
Left arm stimulator Unadkat, who took part in a test, returns to the Indian team after 12 years.
