Smriti Mandhana touches career-best points; holds third place in ICC rankings | Cricket News


DUBAI: India opener Smriti Mandhana hit a career-high 741 points as she continues to maintain her third-place finish in the latest ICC Women’s T20I Player Rankings for batters released Tuesday.
The player of the match in the second T20I against Australia, which ended in a tie before India won in the Super Over, gained 11 ranking points to reach the benchmark.
australia Tahlia McGrath is the new No. 1 in the rankings following his superb performances in the first two games of the ongoing series against ongoing India in Mumbai.
The 27-year-old Australian had unbeaten shots of 40 and 70 and passed his compatriots Meg Lanning and Beth Mooney as good as Mandhana to become Australia’s fourth female batsman and 12th to top the women’s T20I rankings, according to ICC.
Mooney had been at the top since August 3 of this year when she passed Lanning.
McGrath is No. 1 after just 16 matches. The last woman to reach the top in fewer matches was that of the West Indies Stefanie Taylor in 2010 (15 matches) while Indian fly-half Shafali Verma was the fastest in recent years, reaching the top of the standings after 18 matches.
Two other Indian hitters, Shafali and Jemimah Rodriques, also made the T20I top 10 hitters list, with the former moving up a spot to sixth.
In the T20I ranking of bowlers, India Deepti Sharma and Renuka Singh Thakur retained their third and fourth places respectively, with England spinning their legs Sarah Glen move up one place to a second behind his compatriot Sophie Eclestone.
