NEW DELHI: Beautiful complete show by skipper Ajay Kumar Reddy and Sunil Ramesh helped India beat South Africa by 207 runs in the first semi-final of the third edition of the T20 World Cup for the blind on Thursday at the Samprasiddhi Sports Estadio cricket stadium in Bengaluru.
Sunil who shattered his second century of the tournament also contributed with a wicket while Ajay Kumar scored a quick shot 81 and also took 3 wickets.
India will face Bangladesh, who beat Sri Lanka in the other semi-final by 64 points, in Saturday’s summit clash at M Chinnaswamy Stadium.
Batting, India lost flyhalf Lokesh and A. Ravi inside 4 overs as the score was 50. Ravi scored 30. Sujit Munda was dropped in 6th after scoring 14 runs.
Sunil was joined by Ajay in the middle and the two batters put together a big partnership of 144 runs for the 4th wicket.
Ajay ran till his half century with the help of 12 bounds. He retired his innings on 81 on just 29 balls with 17 boundary assists.
Sunil, who marked his first century against Nepal, punished South African bowling. He ran to his century and pulled off his innings on 110 which only made 47 deliveries with the help of 17 limits and 3 sixes.
Vice-captain D. Venkateswara Rao and wicket-keeper hitter Prakash Jayaramaiah scored quick runs to take the score past 300 for India.
India finished the innings on 337/6. Prakash scored an undefeated 22 from 12 balls and Venkateswara scored 18 from 6 balls. Issac Asanda Bidla and Bhule Bhidla took one wicket each for South Africa.
In response, South Africa could never gain momentum while chasing a huge total. They were pushed back by the Indian bowling attack and lost wickets at regular intervals.
SA fell to 67/8 as Ajay Kumar Reddy was the bowlers choice taking 3 wickets. He was well supported by Sunil and Lokesh who took one wicket apiece.
