Ramiz Raja could be removed as PCB chief after Pakistan’s back-to-back Test defeats against visiting England: Sources | Cricket News

KARACHI: Ramiz Raja could be removed from his position as president of the Pakistan Cricket Board following the national team’s back-to-back defeats to England at home, sources say.
Speculation is rife that a lobby, led by disgruntled former board members, has successfully launched a campaign to have Ramiz removed as a pcb President.
This lobby claimed that something was happening behind the scenes and the Ministry of Justice sent a summary to the Prime Minister, who is the boss of the council, for a changing of the guard in the PCB.
“Yes, there is definitely something going on. Rumors are strong that Najam Sethi, who recently met the prime minister at a reception in Lahore, may be called upon to replace Ramiz as president,” said a former PCB member.
England have already won the three-game Test series after winning the first two matches. The third test is currently taking place in Karachi.
Ramiz has served as PCB Chairman since September 2021 and was appointed by former Prime Minister Imran Khan.
When Imran’s party won the majority of seats in the 2018 general election, Najam Sethi resigned as PCB chairman over his past differences with the former prime minister.
Under the Council’s constitution, the Prime Minister nominates the candidates for the office of President and one of them is then elected by the Board of Governors.
Surprisingly, despite a strong campaign against Ramiz when Shahbaz Sharif was elected prime minister and a new government came to power last April, the lobby against the PCB leader failed to achieve its goal.
Ramiz, in fact, was allowed to continue as PCB chairman, a rare thing in Pakistani cricket because with the change of government, the new prime minister still appointed his own person for the important post.
