ICC CEO pitches for more Test-playing nations to tour Pakistan | Cricket News

KARACHI: CEO of the International Cricket Council (ICC) Geoff Allardice can’t wait to see more test cricket played in Pakistan after a successful three-game series against England managed by Ben Stokes.
The three matches, played in Rawalpindi, Multan and Karachi, saw the spectators give a huge boost to Test cricket, even though the hosts lost the series 0-3.
Australia also visited Pakistan earlier this year, with packed stadiums for the three-Test series indicating fans’ enthusiasm for the game’s longest format in the country.
“Fans in Pakistan are passionate about the game and passionate about their team, but most importantly they welcome visitors,” Allardice told Pakistan Cricket.
“I’ve always had great experiences when I’ve traveled to Pakistan and I’ve been to see a few shows over the past few years and the welcome is always very warm.”
Pakistan will host reigning world champions New Zealand for a two-Test series starting in Karachi on December 26.
Allardice was optimistic Test cricket will continue to thrive in Pakistan at a time when major Test nations such as Australia and England are seeing a noticeable drop in stadium attendance.
“Pakistan is one of the strongest ICC member countries for cricket,” Allardice said.
“Having series like this (against England) and fans traveling to Pakistan and New Zealand from a few days for their Test series is also a huge step towards bringing cricket back to Pakistan in a way regular.”
