Two Kentuckians have died due to the harsh winter weather system hitting the state, Gov. Andy Beshear announced at a news conference Friday morning.
“We have now lost, we believe, two Kentuckians to this Arctic storm,” Beshear said.
One death is the result of a car accident in western Kentucky, and the other is that of a “homeless” person in Louisville, Beshear said.
Interstate 64 in Scott County was also closed in both directions due to multiple collisions around the 69-mile marker, Beshear said.
The Kentucky National Guard and Kentucky State Police were also working on a major crash on Interstate 71 that caused a major backup all morning, Beshear said.
There are currently 20,000 homes without power in Kentucky, Beshear tweeted Friday morning.
