NEW DELHI: The Board of Cricket of India (BCCI) has asked the selection committee headed by Chetan Sharma to work an extra day to pick the Indian squad for the upcoming limited home series against Sri Lanka. TOI has learned that the BCCI Cricket Advisory Committee, consisting of Ashok Malhotra, Jatin Paranjpe and Sulakshna Naik, will likely meet on December 29 to work on the shortlist of candidates for the new selection committee.
“The outgoing selectors were asked to work until Christmas. But since the new selectors were finalized and the Sri Lanka Series team had to be chosen, Chetan SharmaThe team of has been invited to watch this round Ranji Trophy team. The current coaches were invited to discuss the Sri Lanka series squad on Tuesday,” a BCCI source told TOI.
TOI understands that the BCCI has already started to communicate with the players and let them know their plans for next year. A few players are categorically told to focus on a certain format. “Seniors and a few junior players are advised that they should focus on ODIs only as the ODI World Cup in India is just under a year away. BCCI are likely to field very specific teams in the T20I and ODIs,” the source added.
It will be interesting to see if BCCI retains Chetan Sharma and Harvinder Sing who reapplied for the position. It is learned that Chetan has no problem working under a new selectors chairman.
