soccer legend Pele is dead Thursday in Sao Paulo, Brazil. He was 82 years old. Pele, who is the only player to win three FIFA World Cups, had been undergoing treatment for colon cancer since 2021.
He had been hospitalized last month for multiple health issues. Pele helped Brazil win the World Cup in 1958, 1962 and 1970.
His daughter, Kely Nascimento, confirmed his death Thursday on Instagram.
The footballing legend has scored 77 goals in 92 career matches for the national team.
