Mexico bus crash kills at least 15, including four children, local officials say | world news

At least 15 people died in the bus crash in Mexico, including four children, local officials said.

At least 47 people were being treated for injuries following the incident in Nayarit state on Mexico’s west coast – about 650 miles south of the border with the United States.

The incident happened on a rural road on Friday, according to prosecutors.

All of the people on board were from the town of Leon, in the state of Guanajuato, police said.

Pooling resources to rent a bus with friends and family for a visit to the beach is not uncommon in Mexico.

Forty-five of them were being treated in hospital.

The circumstances leading to the incident are under investigation.

Previous accidents in similar circumstances have been caused by poorly maintained vehicles, bad weather, substandard highways or speeding.
