VATICAN CITY: Pope Francis paid tribute on Saturday to his “very dear” predecessor Benedict XVI, who died earlier in the day at the age of 95.
“With fondness we remember such a noble, kind person,” francis said during a New Year’s service in St. Peter’s Basilica, offering thanks “for all the good he has done” and highlighting “his sacrifices offered for the good of the church”.
