Brazil officially has a new but familiar president as Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has been sworn in for the third time.

The politician, known as Lula, held Brazil’s highest office between 2003 and 2010.

He takes office after beating Jair Bolsonaro in October, concerned about the Brasilia inauguration ceremony, fearing Bolsonaro supporters will try to disrupt the proceedings.

A man carrying an explosive device and a knife had been arrested as he attempted to enter the inauguration in the Brazilian capital, according to military police.

Up to 300,000 people gathered along the esplanade to celebrate after a ceremony at from Brazil Congress.
