India vs Sri Lanka: Sanju Samson ruled out of remainder of T20I series, Jitesh Sharma named as replacement | Cricket News

PUNE: Indian striker Sanju Samson has been ruled out of the remainder of the ongoing T20I series against Sri Lanka with a knee injury.
Samson injured his left knee trying to field a ball near the boundary lines during the first T20I in Mumbai on Tuesday.
“Samson was taken for scans and specialist opinion this afternoon in Mumbai by the BCCI medical team and advised on rest and rehabilitation,” a BCCI press release read.
The selection committee on Wednesday named Jitesh Sharma as Samson’s replacement.

India led the three-game series 1-0 after narrowly winning by two points in the opener. The second T20I will be played in Pune on Thursday.

Samson’s injury could be an opportunity for Rahul Tripathi to make his debut. Tripathi, a constant performer in the IPL, has traveled with the team for a while but is yet to get a match.

Indian team update for Sri Lanka’s T20Is: Hardik Pandya (Captain), Ishan Kishan (wk), Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shubman Gill, Suryakumar Yadav (VC), Deepak Hooda, Rahul Tripathi, Jitesh Sharma (wk), Washington Sundar, Yuzvendra Chahal, Axar Patel, Arshdeep Singh, Harshal Patel, Umran Malik, Shivam Mavi, Mukesh Kumar.
