The House deadlock will go for another ballot as Republican Rep. Kevin McCarthy is nominated for a seventh ballot. He was nominated by Representative-elect John James of Michigan. The House is back after adjourning Wednesday night.

James appealed for unity in his inaugural speech, stating that “the issues which divide us today are far less serious than they were in 1856. In fact, there is much more which unite us than divide us, whatever our political ideology. “

“The stakes today relate to a few rules and personalities. Whereas the issues at the time were about slavery and whether the value of a man who looked like me was 60% or 100% of a human being,” James said.

McCarthy failed to achieve a majority in six ballots over two days.

A group of 20 Republicans opposed to McCarthy voted for Representative Byron Donalds on the fourth, fifth and sixth ballots.
