German police have arrested an Iranian national suspected of planning a terror attack, authorities in the country said on Sunday.
Police in the western town of Munster said the 32-year-old allegedly purchased unspecified quantities of cyanide and ricin toxins in preparation for an “Islamist-motivated attack”.
The suspect was arrested following an investigation by the Central Terrorism Prosecution Office of North Rhine-Westphalia, a unit of the Düsseldorf prosecutor’s office, according to police.
Police recovered materials during a search of the suspect’s home in the town of Castrop-Rauxel and an investigation is ongoing, police said.
Another person is also being held in connection with the case, police said, without providing further details.
