Pat Cummins wants all bases covered in ‘big series’ against India | Cricket News

SYDNEY: Australian skipper pat cummins wants everything in his “arrangement” for the “big” series in India next month and in addition to front row spinner Nathan Lyon, he believes Ashton Agar and Travis Head will also be key to the team’s bowling plans.
Australia, who won a 2-0 Test series here against South Africa, are preparing for the four-game Border-Gavaskar series, which kicks off in Nagpur on February 9.
“I think our team will have almost every opportunity. It’s a big series, so we want everything available to us,” Cummins said after the game.
Agar had been called up for the final test against South Africa with the Indian tour in mind. However, in the 22 overs he played, the 29-year-old gave up 58 runs and went without a wicket in the test draw.
But being a left-arm spinner, he could prove effective against India’s top order which is dominated by right-handers in the absence of southpaw Rishabh Pant, who will miss the series due to injuries sustained in a car crash on last month.
“Ash will be there, a left arm orthodox… he will absolutely be there,”
“It wasn’t an audition at all (for the India tour). This box office is a bit different from India, it wasn’t really touring in the middle of the box office.
“An Indian wicket sometimes really breaks, even from the middle of the wicket, and a left arm orthodox becomes a bit more effective against right hand batters. I think he did very well,” added Cummins .
While Nathan Lyon will spearhead the spin department in India, Cummins believes Head will also be vital.
“Trav is a slightly different bowler to Nath (Lyon), a little flatter, which could be really helpful there. I was really happy with the way he (Head) played, and probably under-he even has it in this game.
“So he will be a big part of our team there.
The skipper is also counting on the likes of part-time spinners Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith to pitch in the slow bowling department.
“Over there, if you pick two spinners, you think it’s going to be quite a spinning wicket and Travis Head, Marnus, Smudge (Smith), they all come in a little bit more.
“Usually if you pick two spinners, you don’t expect it to be a very long five-day game, and we have other resources there anyway.
Versatile Cameron Green, who missed the Sydney test with a broken finger, is expected to recover in time for the India tour.
“Cam Green bowls at six, so you have three fast bowlers, which is a bit luxurious like that,” Cummins said.
“He showed his class (taking five wickets at the MCG) so no qualms picking him – you know what you’re going to get, and that’s quality.”
