NEW DELHI: India recorded a hard-fought four-wicket win over Sri Lanka in the second ODI to seal the series 2-0 with one game to go. mohamed siraj (3/30) and Kuldeep Yadav (3/51) set up India’s win followed by KL Rahulthe valiant undefeated shot of 64.
With the win, India were also relieved to hold the unwanted record for most defeats in ODI cricket history. Sri Lanka suffered their 437th loss to surpass India’s record of 436 defeats in the ODIs.
Siraj struck early before Kuldeep triggered the mid-order collapse as Sri Lanka raced for 215 in 39.4 overs. In response, India went through a tough time after being down to 86/4 in the 15th.
But KL Rahul bailed the team out of a precarious position with two crucial partnerships with Hardik Pandya (36) and Axar Patel (21) as India hit the target in 43.2 overs.
Sri Lanka have now also equaled New Zealand’s record for most defeats against an opponent in the ODIs. It was Sri Lanka’s 95th defeat against India while New Zealand also have 95 defeats against Australia.
When it comes to T20I, Sri Lanka once again tops the list of most defeats in the format and against a single opponent. They have found themselves on the losing side on 94 occasions while their 19 defeats against India are the highest against a single opponent.
