ROHTAK: Bengal Pacer Deep Akash came back with a career-best 10 wickets as Bengal stormed through to the quarter-finals with a crushing inning and 50-run win over Haryana in their Group A Ranji Trophy game Friday.
Resuming the final day on a shaky 177/7 straight, Haryana only managed to last 10 overs and folded for 206 with Akash settling the issue, sending Ajit Chahal and Amit Rana en route to a second successive carry at five wickets (5 / 51).
Akash’s 5/61 in the opening innings saw the home side go down for a paltry 153 as he came back with his opener 10 wickets (10/112).
Mukesh Kumar (3/62) and Ichan Porel (2/42) also impressed when Bengal’s rhythm troika unleashed their fury on a tough Lahli track.
Bengal posted a whopping 419 in their opening round, courtesy of Anustup Majumdar’s gritty 145.
The win kept the Manoj Tiwary-led side top of Group A with 32 points from six games, having won four and drawn two to qualify for the quarters with one game less.
They will then face Odisha at the Gardens of Eden from Tuesday.
“Good win yes but we have a long way to go. There is no room for complacency. There is no place for the party. We have to work hard and fight together as a team,” Bengal coach Laxmi Ratan Shukla said.
