Authorities don’t know if the driver of a pickup truck involved in a standoff in Torrance, Calif., is linked to the Monterey Park mass shooting, Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna said.

“I also want to say there’s a tactical incident, which is happening in the town of Torrance, which is covered. People have been asking, ‘Is this your suspect? We don’t know,” Luna said at a press conference.

He continued: “As I said earlier, today we had a vehicle described as a white van, I guess you would say, an interesting van. And there’s a van that looks exactly like what has been described to us in the city of Torrance. This is a barricaded suspicious situation, we are working with one of our partners at the Torrance Police Department to resolve this issue. We believe there is a person inside this vehicle. We don’t know what its condition is but we will manage it as safely as possible.”

Luna went on to say that the driver of the white van might be the suspect in the shooting, “but at this point, if we’re doing our job properly, we’re not just looking at that situation or that scenario, but making sure that we’re looking into All the possibilities.”

He asked and encouraged community members if they had any information about the shooting suspect to come forward.

The sheriff’s office posted photos of the suspect from the shooting earlier today on social media.
