Not too worried about the big scores, trying to change my game a bit now: Rohit Sharma | Cricket News

NEW DELHI: India captain Rohit Sharma is quite happy with his batting approach and not at all worried about big scores as he knows a special is around the corner.
The opener hit a quick shot 51 from 50, with seven fours and two sixes, to propel India to a decisive eight-wicket win over New Zealand in the second ODI on Saturday.

Rohit, who had scored three double centuries in the ODIs, last made a hundred in the format in January 2020 as his conversion rate from fifty to one century dropped drastically.
“I’m trying to change my game a bit now, I’ve tried to face the bowlers and I think it’s important, to try and put the pressure back on. I know the big scores haven’t come but I’m not too worried about it,” Rohit said at the presentation ceremony in Raipur.
“I’m happy with my stick. I’ve kept my approach pretty similar. I’m happy with the way I’m doing. I know a big score is around the corner.”

With the 50th World Cup scheduled for later this year at home, he said the team wanted to do all sorts of things (experimentation) before entering the showpiece event.
The attack led by Mohammed Shami produced an incisive effort to eliminate New Zealand for a paltry 108 before India were eliminated in 20.1 overs.
Shami (3/18) was well supported by mohamed siraj (1/10) and Hardik Pandya (2/16).
Shami and Siraj made life difficult for the batters with their high-quality couture bowling, reducing New Zealand to a dismal 15-for-five after Rohit opted to bowl.
“I thought the last five games the bowlers have really stepped up. Everything we asked of them, they delivered. Especially doing this in India. You can expect these performances away from India, but they have real skills.
“When we trained here last night it was moving, there was good range. That’s why we wanted this challenge: 250 would have been quite difficult.
“Shami and Siraj wanted to continue for longer periods but I told them a big test series was coming up (against Australia) so we have to take care of themselves as well.”
New Zealand skipper Tom Latham said the failure to establish partnerships had hurt his team.
“Hitting at the top was not our best day. India played in the good areas for a long time and gave us next to nothing. Not an idea, but all credit to India. The surface did a little, a little tennis ball bounce, some passed, some didn’t.
“Unfortunately we weren’t able to build a partnership. Anytime you want to put on a great performance, but unfortunately we couldn’t adapt quickly enough,” Latham said.
Player of the Match Shami said he was always focused on maintaining the right line and length.
“I always start trying to get a good rhythm, line and length. Seam slack is all about reps. I get irritated if the seam isn’t perfect. I love it when you can see the seam in the air. So I keep trying to do that,” Shami said.
