JAKARTA: Indian shuttles Lakshya Sen and Saina Nehwal made an impressive debut at masters of indonesia Super 500 tournament, qualifying for the second round of the men’s and women’s individual events, respectively, with contrasting victories here on Wednesday.
Sen, who has had a lackluster start to the season with early starts from Malaysia and India over the past two weeks, put in a stellar performance to outsmart new Japanese sensation Kodai Naraoka 21-12 21-11 in their opening game.
Saina, who had reached the second round of the Indian Open, cruised to a 21-15 17-21 21-15 win over Chinese Taipei’s Pai Yu Po to advance to the quarter-finals.
Seventh-seeded Sen will next face Malaysia’s Ng Tze Yong, while Saina will face the winner of the match between two Chinese, Zhang Yi Man and eighth-seeded Han Yue.
Former world No. 1 Kidambi Srikanth continued to flatter to deceive as he blew an 18-15 lead and two game points in game two to lose 10-21 22-24 in 39 minutes.
